Controversial Nigerian musician Portable has appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to spare him from arrest over his habit of spraying the Naira. The EFCC has been cracking down on individuals who misuse the Nigerian currency.
In a widely circulated video, Portable, known for his frequent violations, is seen pleading with the anti-corruption agency to refrain from taking legal action against him. During an Instagram live session on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, Portable advised his fans, whom he often showers with cash during performances or on the streets, to open bank accounts. He stated his preference for transferring money directly to their accounts and urged them to avoid actions that could lead to his imprisonment.
“I didn’t deface the Naira. I help a lot of people, after God na government, please forgive me if you have videos of me spraying money, no more spraying of money. My fans, if I no longer spray money, after God na government, no more spraying of money. If it’s about money, open bank accounts, and let’s make transfers,” he said.
