Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s goal sealed a crucial 1-0 victory for Napoli against Lecce on Saturday, keeping them five points clear at the top of Serie A. The Napoli captain scored the only goal of a scrappy encounter in Naples after capitalising on a rebound from a Scott McTominay header saved by Lecce’s Wladimiro Falcone.

Di Lorenzo’s third goal of the season followed an earlier effort that was ruled offside. Napoli remains unbeaten with four wins in as many matches and sits comfortably ahead of second-placed Inter Milan, who will face Juventus on Sunday in a key clash for the defending champions.

Despite creating limited chances, Napoli held off a spirited Lecce side, who remain near the bottom of the table with just five points from their first five matches. Lecce, coming off a heavy 6-0 defeat to Fiorentina, showed resilience but couldn’t find the net.

Meanwhile, Atalanta celebrated coach Gian Piero Gasperini’s 400th match with a stunning 6-1 victory over Verona. The team surged into a five-goal lead within the first 35 minutes, thanks to goals from Marten de Roon, Charles De Ketelaere, and braces from Mateo Retegui and Ademola Lookman.

Atalanta’s early dominance was marked by De Roon’s opener in the sixth minute, followed by quick goals from Retegui and De Ketelaere. Lookman added two more before Amin Sarr netted a consolation goal for Verona just before half-time. Atalanta, now fourth in the standings with 16 points, eased off in the second half but still managed to extend their lead with another goal from Retegui.

Napoli will look to continue their strong form when they face AC Milan on Tuesday, who have had their match against Bologna postponed due to severe flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region.
