Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced on Wednesday, during President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 Budget, that the National Assembly has approved a six-month extension for the implementation of the 2024 Budget.
“We shall continue on the path of nationalism and service to our country,” Akpabio stated, addressing a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
“Your Excellency, we have reviewed the 2024 Budget performance. In light of its achievements, we have deemed it necessary to extend the lifespan of the 2024 Budget to 30th June 2025.
“The enabling legislation for this extension will soon be presented to you for assent, as a testament to our recognition of the budget’s strong performance and our commitment to building upon the momentum it has generated,” Akpabio added.
President Tinubu’s 2025 budget proposal of ₦47.9 trillion is approximately ₦20 trillion higher than the 2024 budget. In December 2023, Tinubu presented his first budget to the National Assembly, totalling ₦27.5 trillion. Later that month, the Senate increased the proposal by ₦1.2 trillion, approving a final figure of ₦28.7 trillion for the 2024 budget.
