The chairman of Nigeria’s National Population Commission, Nasir Kwarra, has urged Nigerians to avail themselves of the upcoming National Population and Housing Census.
The activity, which is set to take place between May 3 and May 7, is a national event, according to the Chairman of the Commission, and it will aid in producing accurate data for the nation’s planning and development.
To ensure that the exercise is credible and effective, Mr. Kwarra added that many resources and efforts had been utilized. The chairman made the remarks at a workshop for social media influencers and writers in the nation in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, while being represented by his special assistant, Husaini Isiyaku.
He said that it is a national event and it is the responsibility of every citizen to participate by presenting themselves to be counted. He stated that in order to produce a credible and reliable result for the nation to generate data for sustainable development planning, the commission requires the support of all stakeholders.
He emphasised that over the years, the commission has invested considerable time and resources in planning for it by drawing from its rich institutional experience to give the nation a digital and scientific census that will generate data for planning within the context of present realities. He said the commission continues to work on strategies to make sure the exercise is effective.
Additionally, he added that the commission has developed a Census Strategic Plan and Implementation Strategy detailing a whole range of activities to be carried out in the pre, actual and post-census stages. He stated that the Commission had made major advancements in census preparation.
