Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, a prominent Fulani socio-cultural association, has announced that its members will not join the planned nationwide protests against hunger and hardship scheduled for August 1, 2024.
This decision was shared during a press conference in Karu, Nasarawa State, by the association’s national president, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello-Bodejo, and national secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan.
Bello-Bodejo maintained that the association prefers peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement with authorities over mass protests.
The group also praised the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a related statement, Alhaji Abdulkarim Dayyabu, a social critic and leader of the Movement for the Restoration of Justice, expressed doubts about the legitimacy of the anonymous groups calling for the protests.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Dayyabu urged the public to be patient and supportive of the current leadership, suggesting that the government is already addressing the prevailing issues.
Meanwhile, 259 civil society organisations (CSOs) under the Coalition for Transparency and Economic Reforms (COTER) also voiced their opposition to the planned protests organised by the #EndBadGovernance group.
At a press conference led by COTER’s National Coordinator, Adeshina Animashaun, the coalition warned that the protests could lead to chaos and violence similar to the October 2020 #EndSARS demonstrations.
Animashaun urged the protest organisers to reconsider, stating the potential risks to national stability and the safety of innocent Nigerians.
