The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) Secretary-General, Mark Rutte, has shared his eagerness to collaborate with Trump “to advance peace through strength” as the former president approaches the 270 electoral votes required to win the White House.
“We face a growing number of challenges globally, from a more aggressive Russia to terrorism, to strategic competition with China, as well the increasing alignment of China, Russia, North Korea and Iran,” Rutte said.
“Working together through NATO helps to deter aggression, protect our collective security and support our economies,” he added.
Rutte commended Trump for his efforts in his first term to encourage U.S. allies within NATO to increase their defence expenditures. He pointed out that approximately two-thirds of the 32 NATO member countries are expected to meet the organisation’s primary defence spending target this year.
