The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of 82 persons in connection with illegal drug activities last month in Delta State.

Recall that the command arrested 322 suspected drug abusers at various locations in the state between January and March this year.

According to the Delta State Commander of NDLEA, Abubakar Wada, who confirmed the arrest to the Newsmen in Ogwashi-Uku, said the suspects comprise 56 males and 26 females.

Wada, who rolled out the numbers of achievements recorded by the command, said 17 of the arrested suspects were charged to court and convicted accordingly.

Speaking further, the commander stated that there were seizures of 111.4246 kg and 287.44 litres of drug exhibits recovered from the arrested suspects.

He added that 51 suspects were, however, counselled while 10 sensitization programmes were carried out within the month under review.

Abubakar Wada lamented that people paid deaf ears to the involvement of younger ones who are below the age of 15, and the older ones who are above the age of 60 dealing in drugs in their communities.

Not disturbed by this development, he said, “We are making efforts to see that those involved in illegal drug activities are controlled by going after them so that drugs would be less available to see and buy.”

He said the command is having upper hands against the drug dealers because the “organized red operations” are going to drug corners of the state’s major cities in Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, Kwale, Sapele, and others to arrest any suspected illegal drug abusers.
