The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 internal Senior Schools Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Registrar and CEO of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Professor Wushishi revealed that 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55 percent of those who sat for the exam, scored five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
A total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, with 1,367,736 actually sitting for it. The breakdown included 702,112 males and 665,624 females.
Wushishi said 1,147,597 candidates, representing 83.90 percent, achieved five credits or more, regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
“Number of candidates with five Credits and above, including English and Mathematics is 828,284, representing 60.55%.
“Number of candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics is 1,147,597, representing 83.90%,” he said.
The registrar also noted that 2,267 candidates with special needs participated in the examination.
NECO recorded a 30.1 percent decline in examination malpractice cases in 2024, with 8,437 cases, compared to 12,030 in 2023. Wushishi commended this reduction, emphasising the Council’s continued efforts to ensure integrity in the examination process.
Professor Wushishi also disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were found to be involved in mass cheating. These schools will be invited for discussions before appropriate sanctions are imposed. Additionally, one school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
Also, 21 supervisors from 12 states have been recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision and involvement in various misconducts, including aiding malpractice, extortion, drunkenness, and abscondment.
“During the conduct of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), 40 schools were found to have been involved in whole school (mass) cheating in 17 states.
“They will be invited to the Council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti was recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and 01 Science subject.
“Similarly, 21 Supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness and negligence, in 12 states,” he explained.
The Council restated its commitment to maintaining high standards and integrity in its examinations, ensuring that deserving students receive their results without compromise.
Professor Wushishi, announced that the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results are now officially released. He advised candidates to visit the NECO website www.neco.gov.ng, and use their examination registration number to access their results.
