The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on Wednesday announced that it has received 128 Nigerian returnees from Libya.
The Director-General, DG, of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Habib, told newsmen that the evacuees were received through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The evacuees left Mitiga International Airport, Tripoli, on Tuesday night onboard a chartered Buraq Boeing 100-800 aircraft with registration 5A-DMG, according to Habib, who was represented by Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Coordinator of NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Office.
The stranded Nigerians comprised of; 38 females and 90 males, according to the DG.
“The returnees were brought back to the country by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) through a voluntary repatriation programme for distressed persons.
“They had left the country to seek greener pasture in various European countries but could not afford to return when their journey became frustrated, ” he said.
The DG reassured them that the Nigerian Government was aware of the youth’s goals and was creating an enabling environment in which everyone could reach his or her full potential.
