Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday, thanking him for delivering the “tools” Israel needs to defend itself. This came after reports that Trump had authorised the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, a shipment initially halted under the Biden administration.
In a video statement, Netanyahu praised Trump for keeping his promise to provide Israel with the necessary resources to secure its defence and confront common enemies. Israel’s foreign minister, Gideon Saar, also thanked Trump for the transfer, referring to it as a “crucial defence shipment.”
Trump confirmed on his Truth Social platform that various supplies, including those ordered by Israel, were now being delivered. The Biden administration had previously blocked the transfer of these heavy bombs, citing concerns over potential damage and human casualties in densely populated Gaza areas.
The U.S. military’s release of the bombs follows a truce between Israel and Hamas aimed at ending the fighting that intensified on October 7, 2023.
