Netflix will test games on select TVs and computers as a first step towards making them available on more devices, according to Mike Verdu, the company’s vice president of games, in a blog post on Monday.
Starting on Monday, the company will roll out a limited beta test to a small group of members in Canada and the United Kingdom on select TVs and, in the coming weeks, on PCs and Macs via Netflix.com on supported browsers.
Netflix began its push into the gaming experience by launching Netflix games on mobile devices in November 2021.
Until now, the company’s games have only been available on Apple’s iOS and Alphabet’s Android platforms.
Initial testing will include “Oxenfree” from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio, and “Molehew’s Mining Adventure,” an arcade game about gem mining.
Users can use their phones to play TV games, and those using PCs and Macs can use a keyboard and mouse to play on Netflix.com.
“We hope to make games even easier to play for our members around the world,” Verdu said in reference to the expansion of the number of devices on which games are now available.
According to Netflix, some of its initial partners’ products—including Roku, Chromecast with Google TV, and Amazon Fire TV streaming media players—will support games on TV.
In addition to the 16 games currently being developed by its in-house game studios, the company claimed in March that it had 70 games in development with its partners and 40 more games scheduled for release later this year.
