The Lagos State government announced that full passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line will start on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), revealed this information on Friday.
On the launch day, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will accompany his executive council members and other dignitaries as they ride with commuters on the first fee-paying passenger trip. According to Akinajo, the train services will begin daily from Agbado at 6:00 a.m.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will lead his executive council members and other dignitaries on the passenger operations launch and ride with commuters on the first fee-paying passenger trip,” Akinajo said.
The schedule for the train service has been adjusted, with passenger movement commencing from 6 a.m. from Agbado, as Engr earlier mentioned. Akinajo. This is a change from the previous trips that emanated from Oyingbo at 9 a.m.
Akinajo explained that the new timetable was based on data gathered through a series of tests for the non-fee-paying passengers. The new timetable prioritises the origin trips from Agbado, where riders live and work in Ikeja, Oshodi, and Lagos Island.
For passengers whose journeys end on Lagos Island, buses will be available at the Oyingbo bus terminal for them to complete their journeys.
