President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa District, situated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The institution, which will be named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic, Gwarinpa, is designed to enhance technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education under Nigeria’s national educational policy.
In a correspondence dated January 16, 2025, addressed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, confirmed that the government has approved the establishment of the institution. The letter, which Alausa signed, urged Wike to propose appropriate sites for both the temporary and permanent facilities of the polytechnic in Gwarinpa.
A technical team from the Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will inspect the suggested locations. The Minister indicated that the final decision regarding the takeoff site will be determined based on the recommendations from the team.
In the meantime, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairman, has expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for sanctioning the new polytechnic, labelling it a major advancement for the FCT.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu commended the President’s initiative and recognised the efforts of the FCT Minister in bringing the project to fruition.
