The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with Huawei Technologies, has set up four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) locations aimed at monitoring traffic and speed infractions. This move will complement the current Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and Traffic Management Solution devices.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi disclosed that two of the locations are designated speed detection zones: one on Ogudu Road at Alapere with a speed limit of 80 km/h, and another on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way at Nitel with a speed limit of 60 km/h.
“On the other hand, the e-police sites for traffic violations are installed at Allen Avenue Road Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road. These e-police sites are designed to detect a wide range of traffic violations, including running red lights, non-compliance with lane discipline, illegal U-turns and reverse driving on highways,” Osiyemi said.

The system imposes fines of N20,000 for running red lights and N50,000 for speeding offences. Enforcement is set to commence immediately, with offenders receiving SMS notifications from the Vehicle Inspection Service outlining their violations and the associated penalties.
“This system is not designed to be punitive but to encourage responsible driving behaviour and reduce the rate of accidents on our roads. The goal is simple: to save lives, protect property, and create an orderly transportation environment,” the commissioner explained.
