New Vice-Chancellor Appointed for Kwara State University

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has appointed Professor Jimoh Shaykh-Lukman as the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University. Governor Abdulrazaq’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, conveyed in a statement on Tuesday that Shaykh-Lukman demonstrated exceptional merit during the screening exercise conducted by the university’s governing council.

”He comes highly recommended to the job with decades of experience as an administrator and university scholar,” Ajakaye said.

Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Shaykh-Lukman, a native of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, served as the acting vice-chancellor following the passing of his predecessor, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, in 2022.
From 2020 to 2022, he held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has sanctioned the transformation of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, into a State University of Education.

“The government will continue ongoing efforts to transform the two other colleges of education and make them more viable in line with current realities in the sector,” Ajakaye said.

The decision of the university’s location follows just a few days after the Governor gave the green light to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills.
