New Zealand suffered a second setback just before the Champions Trophy, as veteran fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was ruled out due to a foot injury.
The 33-year-old sustained the injury last month while playing in a T20 league in the UAE. His absence leaves a gap in the squad, and Kyle Jamieson has been named as his replacement.
This marks the second forced change to New Zealand’s 15-man squad, following Ben Sears’ withdrawal due to a hamstring injury. Jacob Duffy stepped in for Sears.

Ferguson, a key figure in the team’s bowling lineup, has an impressive record of 99 wickets in 65 ODIs.
“We’re really disappointed for Lockie,” said New Zealand coach Gary Stead. “Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience, and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event.”
Jamieson, 30, previously featured in 13 ODIs between 2020 and 2023 and will now have an opportunity to contribute on the big stage.
New Zealand is placed in Group A of the eight-team tournament alongside hosts and defending champions Pakistan, as well as India and Bangladesh. Group B consists of Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan..
