News Central’s Diaspora Town Hall Set for New York: Discussions on Right to Vote

This Saturday, September 28 2024, News Central TV will host the highly anticipated international town hall meeting in New York USA. The event will bring together the Nigerian diaspora community to discuss the importance of diaspora voting and participation in the electoral process.

With millions of Nigerians residing in the diaspora, the Nigerian diaspora is considered one of the largest and most influential. Their financial and intellectual contributions are often acknowledged but their potential political influence, particularly in voting, remains underutilised.

The International Town Hall will focus on the challenges and opportunities surrounding diaspora voting rights. Experts and key stakeholders will discuss policy frameworks, the need for inclusive electoral processes, and how diasporans can advocate for change within their respective constituencies. The goal is to amplify the conversation about including the diaspora in the electoral system, moving from remittances and contributions to active political participation.

News Central has successfully held previous editions of the Town Hall Series in various Nigerian cities, over the past months. These events sparked robust discussions on topics such as the Dosunmu fire outbreak and Landmark demolition in Lagos, the communal conflicts in Jos, the Okuama Tragedy in Delta State, and the aftermath of the End Bad Governance protests in Abuja. However, this upcoming edition in New York marks a strategic shift, focusing specifically on electoral rights and the potential power of diasporans in shaping governance through voting.

With keynote addresses from distinguished personalities such as Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chair/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Dr Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, former Minister of Education and renowned technocrat as well several influential figures, the lineup for the diaspora is set to raise the bar in policy discourse worldwide. With contributions from participants, it promises to be inclusive and engaging for all. The News Central Diaspora Town hall will be held at JaySuites, Sinatra Floor, 15 West Street, New York, USA.

In partnership with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and other prominent diaspora organisations, the event will provide a crucial opportunity for diasporans to unite and champion their collective power, urging governments to recognise their right to vote and their critical role in shaping the political future of Nigerian leadership.

The event will be broadcast live on News Central TV and across its digital platforms, ensuring that diasporans from all corners of the globe can participate in the conversation. Join us this Saturday as we take a bold step toward Harnessing the power of the diaspora for the future of Nigerian democracy.
