NFF Appoints Justin Madugu as Interim Coach of Super Falcons

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Justin Madugu as interim head coach of the Super Falcons following the departure of Randy Waldrum. Waldrum exits after Nigeria’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2024 Olympics, ending his tenure, which began in 2020, without any silverware.

Despite the lack of trophies, Waldrum’s tenure saw the Super Falcons earn the title of CAF’s Women’s Team of the Year, largely due to their strong performance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

In a statement released by the NFF’s communications department, it was confirmed that Madugu, a former Adamawa United manager, would step in to lead the team. The executive committee’s decision aims to stabilise the Super Falcons ahead of upcoming international competitions.

Waldrum’s stint as coach was marred by tensions with the NFF, particularly over unpaid salaries, which reportedly contributed to his departure following the Olympic qualifying setback.

Justin Madugu, who has previously managed the Super Falcons during Waldrum’s absence earlier this year, successfully led the team to a 4-0 victory against Ethiopia in a crucial Olympic qualifier. Now, he takes over with hopes of rejuvenating the squad and preparing them for future challenges.
