NIA Staff Commence Indefinite Strike in Ghana

Staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) in Ghana have commenced an indefinite strike due to grievances concerning their terms of service.

The industrial action was announced on Monday, June 10, 2024, by the union’s chapter of the Divisional Executive Council of the Public Sector Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

Although the strike reportedly began on March 24, the union postponed it after a meeting with representatives from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the management of the NIA. However, the government has been accused of acting in bad faith since then.

According to a statement signed by Council Secretary Kwabena Kyeremeh and Council Chairman, Bangfudeme Nyuzaghi, their concerns include:
