The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Amanda Azubuike on her historic promotion to Brigadier General in the United States Army, making her the first Nigerian woman to achieve this remarkable rank.
In a statement, NiDCOM Chairman Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa praised Azubuike’s achievement as an inspiration for Nigerians worldwide:

Born in London, UK, to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and a Zimbabwean mother, Azubuike later moved to the United States, where she became a naturalised citizen in 1989.

Her military journey began with a passion for aviation, leading her to join the US Air Force Junior ROTC program in high school. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Central Arkansas in 1993 before joining the US Army as an aviator in 1994.
After completing flight school, she became a UH-1 helicopter pilot, launching her career at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, before moving to South Korea for further military training.
Azubuike later earned a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University, furthering her career in leadership and strategy.
Over her 30-year career, Azubuike has held several high-ranking positions, including Deputy Commanding Officer at the US Army Cadet Command, Chief of Public Affairs at the US Southern Command, Senior Military Advisor at the Pentagon
Her promotion to Brigadier General is a testament to her resilience, dedication, and outstanding service in the US Army.
