Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has praised the Nigerian community representatives in Canada for their initiative in developing a comprehensive database system.

Her commendation came during the launch of the Nigerian Association Database in Ottawa, Canada. Dr. Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the significance of data in empowering the Nigerian Diaspora, stating that the database represents a vital step towards integrating Nigerians into the political, economic, and social fabric of Canada.

She expressed her gratitude to the Nigerian community in Canada for setting a commendable example and encouraged other Nigerian communities worldwide to undertake similar initiatives.

Ambassador Obioma Nzewuji, Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa, echoed this sentiment, noting that the database would enhance engagement between the Nigerian community, the High Commission, and local authorities. He advocated for stronger collaboration among Nigerian organizations in Canada.

Deputy Minister of Multiculturalism and Immigration in Alberta, Ako Ufodike, also underscored the database’s importance in connecting newcomers with existing community resources, especially in light of the recent surge in the number of Nigerians in Alberta.

The newly launched database contains comprehensive contact information for over 85 Nigerian-led community and student associations, encompassing professional, cultural, religious, business, and student organizations. Its primary goal is to consolidate Nigerian organizations across the country and facilitate easier access for individuals seeking connections, particularly students and newcomers. A meeting of all registered associations is planned for the upcoming year.
