Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed her strong disapproval of the treatment the Super Eagles team has received from Libyan authorities ahead of their upcoming second-leg match scheduled for Tuesday.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the dangerous conditions in Libya, stating that road travel is particularly risky given the current situation in the war-torn country. The Super Eagles, who departed Nigeria on Sunday for their return match, had their flight diverted to an airport located far from the match venue. This diversion has resulted in an additional three hours of road travel to reach the match location, raising safety concerns for the players.
Dabiri-Erewa also called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to address the issue seriously.
Reports indicate that the players, along with pilots and other personnel on board, have been stranded at the airport for over 13 hours without access to food, water, rest, or means of communication.
Dabiri-Erewa has urged the Super Eagles to remain composed while the NFF assesses the situation and determines the next steps.
