NiDCOM, FHA Collaborate to Activate Diaspora Mega City Project

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) have reaffirmed their commitment to actualise the Diaspora Mega City Housing Project, which is expected to create approximately three million jobs for Nigerians.

Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director of the FHA, explained that NiDCOM is collaborating with strategic government agencies to gather data and verify Nigerians living abroad, ensuring a seamless and secure mortgage application process for Nigerians in the diaspora.

Ojo made this statement when the Chairman of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, led her team to the FHA headquarters in Abuja. He noted that the project aims to offer top-notch facilities and extend to all states, reflecting the preferences of many Nigerians abroad who wish to invest in their home states.

Additionally, the FHA’s mortgage bank will provide services to help diaspora Nigerians acquire quality and affordable homes. Ojo highlighted that about 22 states have been supervised within one month to kickstart the project.

In response, NiDCOM’s Chairman stated that the Commission has been in discussions with the former FHA leadership to expedite the Diaspora Mega City Project.

Dabiri-Erewa also mentioned that there are 33 State Diaspora Focal Point Officers (SDFPOs) appointed by the Governors who act as liaisons between NiDCOM, the diaspora, and their respective states.

The two agencies plan to set up a technical team to provide tailor-made solutions and structural plans to advance the Diaspora Mega City Project within the 36 states and the FCT.
