Nigeria: 10 Kidnapped Maritime Travellers Regain Freedom

Ten maritime travelers who were abducted earlier this week along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway have regained their freedom.

The victims were kidnapped on Monday, September 2, and the police had vowed to investigate the incident and rescue them. A source confirmed their release on Saturday.

According to the source, the abductors abandoned the 10 travelers when they realized that operatives from the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Bonny were closing in on them.

An insider at FOB Bonny, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the base had been tracking the kidnappers since the incident was reported. Their intense intelligence efforts forced the captors to flee, abandoning the victims along the Onne channel.

After their rescue, the victims were taken to the base for medical checkups before being reunited with their families.

Although no official statements have been released by the Navy or the Police, both agencies remain committed to intensifying their operations against sea pirates in the area.
