Nigeria 2023 Elections: Soludo Confronts Peter Obi over Candidates Endorsement

Peter Obi and Charles Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo of Nigeria’s Anambra State has accused Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, of making a deceitful call to voters ahead of the state house of assembly election. Obi had urged the people of the state to vote for Labour Party candidates, but Soludo has called this move deceitful. Governor Soludo noted that an opposition-dominated state assembly would make it difficult for him to govern and cited his own experience of working with a legislature dominated by the PDP when he was first elected as governor. This experience had resulted in Soludo’s impeachment, and he urged voters to support the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) instead.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Soludo highlighted the developmental strides made by his administration and urged voters to choose APGA if they want to continue this progress. Soludo’s statement also referenced Obi’s support for the Labour Party in the presidential election, saying that Anambra voters had shown their support for the party during that election. However, Soludo pointed out that choosing opposition politicians for the state assembly would not be in the best interests of the state’s development.

Soludo’s statement further highlighted his administration’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to free and fair elections. He emphasized that the success of the state’s development agenda is dependent on a supportive legislative assembly.
