Presidential aspirant, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu says there’s a coalition in the works to unseat Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.
Moghalu, an aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said there will be “emergencies, developments and announcements” in the next one month on the shape and structure of the third force.
The Third Force is described as groups of parties outside the two biggest political establishments in Nigeria, the ruling APC and main opposition, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He said in an interview on Village Square Africa on News Central TV that other political parties are planning to come out with a more united front to unstage the country’s biggest political parties.
Moghalu added that he’s not rolling out pitching tent with any of the top parties as you can “never say never” in politics.
He added that the electronic transmission of votes and the electoral amendment bill will be of utmost importance to the success of the 2023 elections.
Moghalu also stated that he hopes to be chosen as the candidate of the coalition as he’s setting machinery round the country to improve on his 2019 performance at the polls.
A Third Force Coalition – What Will Change This Time?
In 2019, other political parties failed to reach a consensus on their desired candidate the two biggest parties.
Candidates like Omoyele Sowore, Tope Fasua, Oby Ezekwesili, Moghalu and others participated in the elections as individual candidates and this, Nigerians believed was counterproductive to their plans to defeat the big parties.
The 2023 elections is less than 400 days away with at least ten aspirants across political parties already expressing interests in becoming Nigeria’s next President.
Some of the aspirants who have declared interests are; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rochas Okorocha, Dave Umahi, Orji Uzor Kalu- all under the ruling APC.
In the PDP, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, Dele Momodu and former Senate President Bukola Saraki have declared their ambitions. Former candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar is also expected to declare his intentions in the coming days.
Chukwuka Monye and Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi have also declared interest in the Presidency, with their parties yet to be known.
