Nigeria has entered a strategic partnership with China, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at boosting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across the country.
The MOU was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, represented by Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.
Sani-Gwarzo emphasised that the collaboration would provide Nigerians with practical skills, strengthen technical education, and improve vocational training nationwide.
“This collaboration will significantly enhance Nigeria’s technical capacity, ensuring that knowledge gained is effectively applied,” Sani-Gwarzo said.
He also highlighted the flexibility of the MOU, allowing for future expansion and improvement and ensuring that any disputes are resolved through dialogue rather than legal actions.

The document, though not legally binding, is set to foster mutual support, making room for future collaborations with other stakeholders and agencies within Nigeria.
Sani-Gwarzo also praised China’s global educational progress, referencing recent global university rankings in which China claimed the top 27 positions.
John Zhao, a director from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), which is part of the partnership, expressed confidence that the MOU would drive improvements in Nigeria’s education sector, aligning with the priorities of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
This partnership is expected to provide essential skills for Nigerian youth, contributing to employment opportunities and broader national development goals.
