Nigeria Appoints José Peseiro as Super Eagles Coach, Finidi George as Assistant

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named José Santos Peseiro as the next head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles.


The NFF announced the appointment on Sunday, stating that it is effective immediately pending the signature of agreed-upon agreements between the coach and the federation.


Peseiro, 62, will take command of the Super Eagles beginning with friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador later in May, according to the NFF.


The contract of the Portuguese tacticians is however not made public. Peseiro has coached clubs and national teams all over Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.


He has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Guimaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC, Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos period), and Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan national teams.


On May 28, Peseiro will lead the Super Eagles out for the first time against Mexico at AT & T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.


The squad will next fly to New Jersey on Thursday, June 2 to face Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison.


The NFF also announced that Finidi George, a former Nigerian international forward, will serve as Peseiro’s First Assistant, with Salisu Yusuf serving as Peseiro’s Second Assistant and Head Coach of the CHAN and U23 National Teams.


Usman Abdallah will serve as the Third Assistant, Eboboritse Uwejamomere will serve as the Match Analyst and Ike Shorounmu, a former Nigerian international, will serve as the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.
