President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of an employment scheme called the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme(LEEP). The scheme aims to generate 2.5 million opportunities for Nigerians, both directly and indirectly.
The Nigerian president revealed this plan in his 64th Independence Day speech on Tuesday.
The program, which will kick off in November 2024, is designed to prioritise the well-being and security of workers nationwide.
“In addition, later this month, we shall launch The Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP).
“It is conceived as a comprehensive suite of interventions at job creation by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment that is aimed at facilitating the creation of 2.5 million jobs, directly and indirectly, on an annual incremental basis whilst simultaneously ensuring the welfare and safety of workers across the country”, he said.
President Tinubu also announced that there’ll be a 30-day Youths Conference to tackle economic challenges.
He said the conference would guarantee that young people’s perspectives are acknowledged and that his government will act on the suggestions.
He reassured Nigerians that the country has brighter days ahead and encouraged them not to lose hope.
