Nigeria Attorney General Seeks Dismissal of Naira Lawsuit (News Central TV)

Nigeria’s Attorney General Abubakar Malami has asked the Supreme Court to throw out the lawsuit filed by three state governors which halted the introduction of new naira notes.

Malami contends that the Supreme Court lacks the jurisdiction to rule on issues the suit raises.

Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Festus Okoye told pressmen that this will not affect the general elections and “the dates fixed by the commission for the conduct of the general election are fixed and firm.”

Okoye further speaking on INEC’s preparedness for the forthcoming elections said “…the commission needs at least 138,000 vehicles, 4000 boats, 88,000 motorcycle to move sensitive materials across Nigeria. However, we have an MoU with the transportation Union to ensure there are no defaults from drivers”

Nigeria’s Central Bank redesigned the 200, 500, and 1,000 Naira banknotes a few months ago, in order to curb soaring inflation, cash hoarding and counterfeiting.
