Meanwhile, Suleiman Abubakar Gumi, a member of parliament for the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, stated on Tuesday that over 30 communities had already been looted by bandits this month.
He made this statement while introducing a resolution calling for the military to send more troops to the state’s impacted areas in order to stop the increasing number of attacks.
According to Gumi, robbers recently raided many settlements in the state, roosted cattle, destroyed property, burned down police stations and food silos, and killed 16 people while injuring dozens more.
He claimed that there are always attacks in the neighborhood. According to him, farmers abandoned their land in order to be safe, while people of roughly 71 communities evacuated their homes.
Gumi noted that the bandits taxed residents of the settlements and demanded ransom payments from those they kidnapped.
In Plateau State, Nigeria’s Northcentral, Bandits have given quit notice to residents of Sabon Zama, Gindin Dutse, Anguwan Tsohon Soldier, Anguwan Yuhana and Anguwan Mangu villages in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents claimed that masked gunmen assaulted the communities and threatened them with violence unless they left within five days.
A Pinau local named Ubale Pinau informed reporters yesterday that the gunmen had issued a warning to leave the area or risk being attacked.
He claimed that a large number of people had begun migrating to Pinau and other larger towns for protection.
