A Nigerian billionaire and one of the largest collectors of Rolls Royce in the world, Bolu Akin-Olugbade, has died of coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.
The 64-year-old socialite died at the Paelon COVID Centre, Ikeja in Lagos State, family sources said.
Akin-Olugbade was the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Owu Kingdom in Ogun State.
The businessman and successful lawyer obtained a doctorate in Company Law from Cambridge University.
He was a great lover of high-end Rolls Royce cars and globally reputed as one of the largest collectors of Rolls Royce. He also had business interests in property development, construction, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, maritime and offshore services and investment banking.
Until his death, Akin-Olugbade was the chairman of Bolu Akin-Olugbade Limited and GMT Limited.
His 10th Rolls Royce, the Cullinan worth $450,000, was reportedly the first to be shipped to Africa in 2019.
A man of taste and glamour, Akin-Olugbade, in a 2018 interview, said: “I have different concepts of how I spend money. I spend money on cars because I have always loved cars. I bought my first Rolls Royce in 1984 and now, I am on my ninth Rolls Royce. I believe in dressing well and I travel a lot.”
