Boko Haram have killed 26 people including a policeman and fishermen in separate attacks in Borno communities, Nigeria.

It was gathered that the assailants, in their large numbers, invaded Mongumeri, and attacked a team of special police force on Wednesday in an hour of gun battle.

Abdu Umar, the commissioner of police, announced the attack yesterday. He revealed to the media that a policeman died in the gunfight with the terrorists. He added that the military personnel in the region afterwards found the police patrol car that the terrorists had stolen during the attack.

“Boko Haram went to Mongumeri and attacked our location, the CRACK Team. They were in large number, firing guns. We exchanged fire with them. We lost one of our men but we repelled the attack. They went with one of our vehicles but the soldiers later recovered it,” he disclosed.

He said that the victims’ bodies had been removed from the location of the incident.

He claimed that on Wednesday, some fisherman were attacked by Boko Haram and 25 of them were slain in the event at Dikwa Local Government.

“One was injured and undergoing treatment,” CP Umar disclosed.

Other locals claimed the victims were ambushed by Boko Haram while scavenging for metal and garbage in areas decimated by years of terror strikes.

The incidents were Borno’s first significant attacks of the year. There has been a period of largely calm in the neighborhood.
