Former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja shortly after handing over power to his successor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was sworn in on Monday.

Buhari, who surged to office in 2015, has served his full two-term limit as required by the constitution. At 11:27 a.m., he departed the inauguration site for Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He then traveled to his rural residence in Daura, Katsina State.
Former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu was sworn in as president of Nigeria on Monday at precisely 10:28 a.m. by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Senator Kashim Shettima, the vice president, was also sworn in. The former president of Nigeria departed the site of the inauguration shortly after and headed for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where he is anticipated to retire.
