Nigeria Calls Up Osimhen and Lookman for AFCON Qualifiers

Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, potentially in transfer negotiations to leave their Italian clubs, have received call-ups for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

William Ekong, Ola Aina, and Taiwo Awoniyi have also been reinstated to the squad announced on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles will kick off their qualifying journey for the 2025 Africa Cup in Morocco with a match against Benin in Uyo on September 7. Three days later, they will travel to Rwanda for their second game.

Osimhen is on Chelsea’s radar, and Lookman might depart Atalanta before the transfer deadline on Friday, following interests from PSG and Arsenal.

The Eagles have also recalled several players absent during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

These players include Ekong, Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, Moses Simon from Nantes, and Bruno Onyemaechi, who plays in Portugal. They were all sidelined with injuries at that time.

The squad is expected to assemble at the training camp in Uyo starting Monday.

The team is strong and will be guided by Bruno Labbadia, the new German coach whose appointment was revealed on Tuesday.
