Nigeria: Canoe Accident Claims Four Lives in Borno

A tragic canoe accident has claimed the lives of four individuals in Dikwa, Borno State, Nigeria.

In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, it was reported that the accident occurred on Monday around 3:30 PM in the Bakassi community, located between Mafa and Dikwa along Maiduguri Road. The canoe, carrying passengers, capsized in floodwaters, leading to the unfortunate death of four females.

The victims, all from Bulabulin Ward in Dikwa, were identified as Ya Mallum Shettima, an adult female from Marte LGA, 10-year-old Maimuna Akura, 6-year-old Umira Alhaji Bulama, and 5-month-old Yagana Bulama Kawu.

The victims were immediately taken to Dikwa General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed their deaths. The bodies have since been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Following the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu extended his heartfelt condolences to the affected families.
