The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the money laundering case against former Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello to Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
The case was filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes commission (EFCC), who arraigned Bello before the court on Thursday, April 18.
Bello’s counsels appeared in court on his behalf as he was absent and could not be produced by the EFCC.
The trial judge, Justice Emeka Nwite granted the prosecution’s request to serve Bello through substituted means, after citing their inability to reach the accused.
News Central reported yesterday that the anti-graft agency attempted to arrest Bello at his home in Abuja’s Wuse area, but were unsuccessful as the former governor was whisked away in an official vehicle by the current Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
The Agency’s Spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed Bello’s narrow escape to the press on Wednesday.
“The security cordon around the former governor’s residence in Abuja was breached by the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, who ensured that the suspect was spirited away in his official vehicle,” Oyewole said.
