The Adamawa/Taraba states command of the Nigerian Customs Service has confiscated 12,435 litres of Premium Motor Spirit valued at N10.8 million.
Bashir Garba-Bature, the Customs Area Comptroller overseeing the command, informed journalists during a briefing that the seizure included 491 25-litre cans and 8 20-litre jerrycans of the commodity, intercepted in Mubi, Adamawa, while en route to the Republic of Cameroon.
“The command officers while on anti-smuggling operations along the border frontiers within the period of two weeks had recorded 05 incidents of interception of PMS on its way to the neighbouring Cameroon Republic,” he said.
Addressing the menace, he said, “We have strategically deployed our operatives along the flashpoints.”
He asked for collaboration and understanding from stakeholders, security agencies and patriotic Nigerians to end the trend of smuggling.
He said, “We attributed the successes recorded to the unwavering support and encouragement being extended to us by the current leadership of the service under our Comptroller-General, Mr Bashir Adeniyi.’’
