The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported a staggering 573,519 applications within the first week of its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise. The surge in interest follows the government’s approval to recruit 3,927 officers, as announced by Finance Minister Mr Olawale Edun.
NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada provided a detailed breakdown of the applications received across different ranks and categories, including general duty and support staff positions.
“For the superintendent cadre under a general duty, 249,218 applicants submitted their entries, while 27,722 applied under the support staff category with HNDs and degrees,” Maiwada stated. He added that 115,634 applied for the inspector cadre general duty, with 12,952 seeking support staff roles.
Additionally, 153,593 applied for customs assistant positions requiring basic secondary school certificates, and 14,400 applied as support staff without Maths and English qualifications.
The recruitment drive highlights the keen interest of Nigerians in joining the NCS, as the agency seeks to fill critical roles and strengthen its workforce.
