The newly elected Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Gboyega Aribisogan has been impeached, less than a week after he was elected.
Seventeen out of the 25 lawmakers voted in favour of Aribisogan’s removal. Aribisogan was also suspended indefinitely on Monday.
Ekiti Assembly elected Olubunmi Adelugba, a lawmaker representing Emure Constituency as the new Speaker.
On November 15, Aribisogan, who represents Ikole constituency 1, was elected as the new speaker. Aribisogan accused former Governor Kayode Fayemi of plotting to impeach him.
He replaced Funminiyi Afuye, who died in October after he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest.
Twenty-four hours after he was sworn in, the Police laid siege on the Assembly complex over claims that some persons were planning to attack the lawmakers.
Adelugba who holds a Master’s degree in Financial Management served as pioneer Honourable State Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development.
She was in ActionAid Nigeria as the Management Accountant and ActionAid International Cameroun as Head of Finance providing a lead in the internal, international and statutory Audit support for the Countries’ program.
She was one time Special Adviser, Revenue Matters and Taxation, in the state and currently the Managing Partner of Bunmi Adelugba & Co and Boomade Professional Services.
