The Kano state government has imposed a dawn-to-sunset curfew in order to prevent a breakdown in law and order in the wake of tensions brought on by the collation of the results of the gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.

The announcement was made Monday morning in a statement released by Mallam Muhammad Garba, the state commissioner for information and internal affairs.

He claimed that the choice was made to stop thugs from wreaking havoc in the already stressful environment.

The state’s commissioner urged residents to stay indoors since troublemakers would not be spared by security personnel.

Meanwhile, the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has emerged as the winner of the Kano state gubernatorial election.

Yusuf trounced his closest challenger and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dr. Yusuf Gawuna.
