FAAN Inducts 201 New Aviation Security Cadets

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially welcomed two hundred and one (201) new aviation security cadets, gearing up to tackle the challenges of 21st-century airport and passenger management.

This announcement was made by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of FAAN, during her address at the passing-out parade ceremony for the recently recruited Aviation Security Cadets. The ceremony took place at the Digital Bridge Institute in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

The training course spans eight weeks, offering a residential programme designed to seamlessly integrate new cadets into the civil aviation industry. The goal is to equip them to proactively implement, monitor, and enforce aviation security measures in alignment with locally approved regulations.

Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, in her speech, emphasised the strategic importance of training in ensuring total safety at airports and addressing the surge in passenger numbers. She stated, “This ceremony not only signifies a significant milestone in your careers but also marks a crucial step in enhancing the nation’s aviation security. It is a strategic response to the rising number of passengers using our airports.”

Addressing the new cadets directly, Kuku urged them to apply the knowledge gained during the training and embody the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. She emphasised the global importance of aviation security, stating, “Globally, the aviation business relies on security and safety. The aviation security department is, therefore, pivotal to passenger facilitation and airport operations.”

The event was attended by heads and representatives of various aviation parastatals and security agencies, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, the Nigerian Police Force, the State Security Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Port Health Service, among others.
