A gas explosion at a vulcaniser’s shop in Kpakungun, a suburb of Minna, has resulted in one death and two injuries.
The victims of the explosion, which occurred on Christmas Day, were identified as Zakari Aliyu, Mohammed Usman Baba, and Umar Mohammed.
Eyewitness Faisal Avuya reported that the explosion took place after Usman Baba, the shop owner, refilled a customer’s gas cylinder.
“The cylinder became hot, and Zakari, who was an apprentice, fetched water to cool it down as they usually do. However, when he poured water on it, the cylinder exploded,” Avuya explained.
The apprentice died instantaneously, but the shopkeeper and his son, Umar, sustained critical injuries.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, as investigations are ongoing.
