Loyalists of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike have pulled out of the campaign council of Atiku Abubakar, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Rising from their stormy meeting in Port Harcourt early morning on Wednesday, members of the team vowed not to partake in Atiku’s campaign activities pending the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The group insist a Southerner must be made Chairman of the party as pressure on Ayu to relinquish his position heightens.
Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde -a strong associate of Wike, had reiterated the call for Ayu’s resignation last week when Atiku visited Oyo to meet with party loyalists.
Party stakeholders in the South West remain divided as majority queued behind the PDP National Chairman, who is currently out of the country.
Chief Olabode George, who walked out of the meeting where Jibrin’s resignation was announced, read the communique of the group.
