The Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Safiyanu Isa Andaha was abducted Tuesday night by some unknown armed men around Ningo village along Andaha–Akwanga Road, a statement said.
The Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Kassimu confirmed the incident on Tuesday morning. According to him, the incident happened around 8:30pm.
He said: “The Chairman, Safiyanu, was abducted at Ningo village on the Akwanga-Andaha Rad in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state along with one Alhaji Adamu Custom at about 8:30 p.m. on January 1, 2024.”
Mr. Andaha was kidnapped alongside another individual named Adamu Umar Tanko, a friend and native of the area who was with him at the time of the incident.
Police Hunting for Kidnappers
The Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident, adding that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
According to the PPRO, the state’s Commissioner of Police Umar Nadada already mobilised security personnel to trace the abductors, and ensure the safe release of the Chairman and Adamu.
“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are actively pursuing the kidnappers to secure the release of the council chairman and the other victim,” Nansel said.
At the time of filing this report, no additional information was heard on the incident.
