Reports indicate that Yakubu Mohammed Lawal, the Nasarawa State commissioner for information, has been abducted by gunmen.
Following occasional gunfire, Lawal is alleged to have been kidnapped from his home in the state’s Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area on Monday night.
The kidnapping was verified on Tuesday by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the police public relations officer in Nasarawa.
Nansel claimed that the Nasarawa State Police Command sent agents to the area as soon as they received the information in order to rescue the commissioner.
The Nasarawa Eggon Division agents hurried to the site to make sure the victim was unharmed.
As a result, CP Adesina Soyemi, the commissioner of police, promptly bolstered the agents with a joint detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the Anti Kidnapping unit, military personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the unknown gunmen while shooting sporadically, invaded the residence of one Hon. Yakubu Lawal Addah forcefully abducted him to an unknown destination,” the police spokesman said.
The united squad, under the direction of Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, Halliru Aliyu, is reportedly conducting a search and rescue operation to find the victim and apprehend the criminals.
The CP requested that anybody with information that could help in the victim’s rescue or the arrest of the criminals contact the State Police Command.
