The Oniru of Iku, a Monarch in Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria, has been kidnapped by unknown assailants.

Four other people who were traveling with the Monarch were kidnapped by the bandits.

The Oniku of Iku in Ikare Akoko, Mikaila Bello, was abducted while he was returning to the town from Akure.

The attack on the Ondo king took place in the early hours of Friday, a local hunter informed reporters.

The hunter claimed that the bandits attacked the ruler and the other victims on the Owo-Ikare route near Ago Panu.

“The driver of the vehicle was stabbed by the gunmen, but we were able to rescue him alone and rushed him to the hospital,” said the hunter, who also serves as a vigilante in the area.

“He is there receiving treatment now with wounds all over his body. Sadly, these people (bandits) are still lurking around our forest in Ondo.”

The captors had not yet made contact with the families of the victims or demanded a payment.

Only a few weeks before to the attack and kidnapping, an armed gang attacked a construction facility in Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s hometown of Owo.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 45 suspected criminals have been detained by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, in some local government areas of the state.

The suspects, according to the corps, were detained for a number of crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder, among others.
