Nigeria: Hoodlums Rob East-Bound Passengers, Set Bus on Fire

The Ogun State Police Command has verified an assault perpetrated by audacious armed criminals who plundered a commercial bus at Oke Ado Junction, situated in Ijebu Imushin, along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, affirmed that the incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday.

Reports indicate that the passengers were en route to the South-East geopolitical zone to partake in Easter celebrations when the hoodlums perpetrated the attack, robbed them, and set the bus on fire.

“It happened in Oke Ado junction at Ijebu Mushin. A luxury bus of Mercedes Benz was burnt down. The vehicle was coming from Maza Maza (in Lagos State) before it encountered the hoodlums,” the police spokesperson said.

The 59-seater bus reportedly belonged to Ifesinachi Transport Ltd.

In a video shared on social media, several affected passengers recounted being ambushed by the criminals who robbed them of their possessions and set the bus ablaze.

“They robbed us of everything we had, they stripped some half-naked. They locked us inside the 59-seater luxury bus and set it ablaze. We thank God that we later escaped; nobody died but everything we had was collected.

“We thank God that we didn’t lose anyone but we lost everything we were travelling with and some sustained injuries.”
