During a clash in Shaffa Taku, a village in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, hunters in Nigeria’s North-East have killed a Boko Haram commander and his deputy.
Mohammed Shawulu-Yohanna, the Chairman and Commander of the region’s hunters and vigilantes (Sarkin Baka), disclosed this to newsmen.
Yohanna revealed that an AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle used by the terrorists were recovered and would soon be handed over to the Nigerian military in Biu.
“Yes, we acted on an intelligence about the movement of the insurgents who have been terrorising communities in the last two weeks.
“Upon receiving the information, I mobilised my team and stormed the spot in the evening at Shaffa Taku, which is a deserted community in Damboa.
“Luckily, we sighted the terrorists numbering more than 20 riding on motorcycles.
“We engaged them in a gun battle, and we were able to kill the Commander and his deputy, while several others fled with gunshot wounds,” he said.
The hunters are known to help the military fight the Boko Haram insurgents.
Shaffa Taku is situated in the heart of Sambisa forest, a Boko Haram hideout.
Despite recent military gains, insurgents continue to terrorize a number of communities in the region, including Mandaragirau in Biu, Sabon Gari in Damboa, and other villages in Askira-Uba council.
Three weeks ago, notorious preacher and leader of Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS), Boko Haram terrorists’ group, Alhaji Ari-Difinoma, surrendered to the Nigerian Army.

Intelligence gathered by News Central indicate that Ari-Difinoma, was forced out of his hideout following sustained bombardment by troops of Operation Hadin Kai.
On May 11, Boko Haram and ISWAP Fighters clashed at Gargaj Village in Bama LGA, Borno State, NorthEast Nigeria, resulting in the death of a notorious Boko Haram commander Elhaj Ousman.

This was two months after Top ISWAP Commander Abou Sadiqou Buorubouru was confirmed killed following a clash between Islamic State fighters and Boko Haram insurgents in Lake Chad.
