Inspector Killed As Gunmen Attack Police Station in Ondo (News Central TV)

Temenu Boluwaji, a police inspector, was killed in a Monday attack by gunmen on the Okuta Elerinla police station in Akure, the administrative center of the Ondo state in southwest Nigeria.

The intense shooting between the police and the assailants apparently resulted in injuries to a number of additional on-duty police officers.

According to sources, the assailants stormed the police station at around one in the morning, and the inspector was shot during a shootout before passing away on the way to the hospital.

Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the incident in a statement.

“On the 25th July, 2022, around 0100hrs, hoodlums attacked Okuta Elerinla Division, in Akure.

“Policemen, who were at alert and alive to their duty repelled them accordingly and the miscreants were unable to gain entrance into the station.

“During the cross fire, one of our gallant station guards AP.207538 0INSPR. Temwnu Boluwaji, was hit by a bullet, he later died on his way to the hospital.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure the perpetrators are arrested”, the statement said.

The police commissioner has meantime urged the citizens of the state to carry out their legal responsibilities fearlessly since these criminals’ days are running out.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident in Nigeria’s Northwest, Gunmen kidnapped  Tony Udemezue, a Priest under the catholic diocese of Sokoto.

The priest was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday from his residence in Tambuwal in Sokoto State and the hometown of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
